Mission Statement

Mission Statement: The Children’s Research Fund North Suburban Board is dedicated to pediatric research support to help ensure a healthy and productive future for the next generation. We are committed to raising funds, servicing children at the hospital, and inspiring each other.

Founded in 1996: The Children’s Research Fund North Suburban Board is an Illinois not-for-profit organization and serves as a junior board to the Children’s Research Fund. The Children’s Research Fund, an affiliated organization of Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, has been raising funds for medical research in Chicago since the 1950s. Both the Children’s Research Fund North Suburban Board and Children’s Research Fund work to promote activities and community awareness for Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.

Board Members: The Children’s Research Fund North Suburban Board has approximately 35 members consisting of young families in the northern suburbs. The Children’s Research Fund North Suburban Board also has several Board Positions for those looking for greater involvement. Board Positions usually are a two year commitment and are voted upon in November or December of the second year of the term (voting only done when necessary).

Fundraising: Since its affiliation with Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, the Children’s Research Fund North Shore Board has raised more than $1.8 million to fund creative research in an amazing array of disciplines through a wide range of fundraising events and activities. Children’s Research Fund North Suburban Board support has led to advanced investigation in cancer, genetics and developmental biology at the Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute, one of a handful of free-standing facilities in the nation devoted exclusively to pediatric research.

The Children’s Research Fund North Shore Board has made a new 2013/2014 pledge of $250,000 that will go to our researcher Dr. Stewart Goldman, one of the nation’s leading pediatric Neuro-Oncologists.

Dr. Goldman is the Medical Director of Neuro-Oncology at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. He is also Director of the Center for Clinical Trials Research for the Children’s Hospital of Chicago Research Center and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine.

In addition, Dr. Goldman serves as a director of the hospital’s Falk Brain Tumor Center, one of the world’s leading centers for pediatric brain tumor diagnosis and treatment. Established in 1986, the center was one of the first of its kind in the nation to create a comprehensive multidisciplinary program, offering specialists in more than 30 pediatric and surgical subspecialties. Last year, the brain tumor team cared for more than 140 new patients and performed more than 100 surgeries.
