The Division of Hematology, Oncology, Neuro-oncology and Stem Cell Transplant at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is committed to harnessing the potential of science and technology by investing in the creation of a multidisciplinary Molecular Oncology and Bioinformatics Program to transform cancer care. Bioinformatics is “an interdisciplinary field that develops methods and software tools for understanding biological data. As an interdisciplinary field of science, bioinformatics combines computer science, statistics, mathematics, and engineering to study and process biological data.” Combining the expertise of molecular oncology and bioinformatics will allow cancer researchers at Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute to manage, analyze, mine and understand the currently accumulated, large scale data, and also to apply it to support the most appropriate course of cancer treatment for each patient.
