History of the Gold Coast Fashion Award Show

The Gold Coast Fashion Award Show is the signature fundraising event of the Children’s Service Board (CSB), an affiliated organization of Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. In 2015, the CSB celebrated the 60th Anniversary of the Gold Coast Fashion Award Show. The event raised nearly $900,000 in net proceeds, for the first time in its history, in support of the Division of Pediatric Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Lurie Children’s.

The show traditionally includes a competition segment in which emerging designers compete for the coveted Gold Coast Fashion Award. The competition segment opens the show and allows audience members to view the designers’ fashions before casting a ballot for their favorite. The designer who receives the most votes returns the following year to receive the Gold Coast Fashion Award and to present his or her fall collection. It is believed to be the only fashion honor in the country determined by the customer rather than the fashion trade.

On Wednesday, September 21, more than 900 guests attended the Children’s Service Board’s 61st Annual Gold Coast Fashion Award Show raising more than $909,183 (net) in one evening! The 2016 event featured the designer competition with the Gold Coast Fashion Award going to Michael DePaulo. Long time retail partner Neiman Marcus Michigan Avenue served as the exclusive retail sponsor for the night and closed the event with a cutting-edge Fall trend show.
