Hi friends; for all those that know me, running has been a passion of mine for well over half my life. I just recovered 2 years after a torn hamstring only to get to a new injury called piriformis (look it up on google). I have finally been cleared for running again and channeling my energy and time to such a noteworthy cause: FIGHTING CANCER. I lost my brother, Barney, to brain cancer over 20+ years ago and my sister, Therese, to ovarian cancer 6+ years ago. Everyone knows someone that has been impacted by cancer: family, friends, neighbors and colleagues. Cancer sucks but there are new cures being found every day and research improves every day.
I am running the 2017 Chicago Marathon with Team Emma as Emma is a niece of my brother in-law, Tim Rose. Emma is a beautiful 4-year old who was diagnosed with a brain tumor a little over a year ago. Her parents are Annie and Bob Barz and I can’t even imagine the emotions they have endured throughout this battle. Emma has endured quite a bit...11 rounds of chemo, 5 weeks of radiation, countless hospital stays...but has remained a happy kid...and that's in large part due to the staff at Lurie's. If Emma can battle cancer, this old guy with piriformis can do another marathon.
Please make a difference in the lives of the more than 173,000 patients treated at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago each year. Support my efforts for the 2017 Lurie Children's Marathon Team by making a gift today. Every dollar raised means a brighter and healthier future for our children.
All donations are tax-deductible and will be acknowledged by Lurie Children’s Foundation.
Please donate if you can and send Emma your prayers and well wishes.
Thank you and God Bless!

PS – I will also be running (or walking / crawling) this marathon honoring for my friends Leesa Drake, Patrick O’Connor & Jill Saraceno Franklin as each is going through their own personal battle with cancer which they will win and persevere!
