Never Say Never

Sometimes you make up your mind about something without knowing why, and your decision persists by the power of inertia. Every year it gets harder to change.
—Milan Kundera

Over the last 9 years I've either been a spectator or a medical volunteer at every Chicago Marathon and each one has been nothing short of amazing. I'm continually awestruck and overwhelmed with emotion by the determination, dedication, perseverance, grit and pure joy each athlete displays in fulfilling, for many, this life long goal. Each year as the race concludes, I'm left inspired not only by friends but literally thousands of strangers who have accomplish this incredible feat. But the thought of actually running a marathon myself wasn’t just baffling, it was out of the question. A marathon was something other people do- not me.

As most of you may know, I have been a nurse at Lurie Children's Hospital since 2007. I am surrounded daily by the bravest, strongest, and most resilient children I have ever known and because of them, I cannot imagine supporting another organization. There is no other race I would rather have as my first marathon and to chase a dream that I believed was just that, a dream.

2017 is a very special year, as I will celebrate my 10th anniversary as a nurse at Lurie Children's, it is also the 40th year of the Chicago Marathon!!! Many thanks to friends and family for the encouragement and gentle nudges to push me way out of my comfort zone and pursue this goal. I'm so excited and honored to run for my favorite kiddos!!

Make a difference in the lives of the more than 173,000 patients treated at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago each year. Support my efforts for the 2017 Lurie Children's Marathon Team by making a gift today. Every dollar raised means a brighter and healthier future for our children.
Here are just a few ways your donations could help:
$35 can provide a comfort item for a premature infant to ensure the smallest and most fragile babies heal and grow faster.
$60 can help provide inpatient entertainment and distractions to help patients reduce stress and have fun while undergoing treatment.
$120 can help provide small lab supplies for one of the hospital’s clinical trials to ensure our children have access to the latest treatments and therapies.
$240 can help provide supplies for the Lurie Children’s classroom so that children in the hospital can continue their education.
All donations are tax-deductible and will be acknowledged by Lurie Children’s Foundation.
On behalf of the patients and families of Lurie Children’s, thank you for your support!
