Lurie Children’s Pedalpalooza is a virtual cycling experience that challenges participants to ride 100 miles in the month of June while fundraising for Lurie Children’s. Participants are encouraged to cycle indoors or safely on the road and can log 100 miles in one day, a weekend or over the course of the month. Pedalpalooza was designed for avid cyclists who want to challenge themselves as well as for families, indoor cyclists and new riders. We’ll provide the tools you need to fundraise, as well as support with planning your personal 100-mile experience. Throughout the month, there will be opportunities to experience special virtual events, participate in group Peloton rides, tackle smaller mileage challenges, earn exclusive incentive merch and celebrate your impact on the patients at Lurie Children’s.
Solo participants will individually track their miles with a goal of logging 100 miles in the month of June. Families can track miles together with a combined 100-mile goal. There will be virtual events, challenges and updates throughout the month so stay tuned for a more detailed schedule.
How do I track my miles?
You can track your mileage using the health tracker of your choice: Apple, Google Fit, Strava or Fitbit. Linking Apple Health to your Peloton allows for easier tracking of Peloton miles. We encourage all participants to join our Strava club (https://www.strava.com/clubs/lurie-children-s-pedalpalooza-889096) to check out the Pedalpalooza leaderboard. You can share your mileage on your participant page but do not need to officially submit mileage.
Where should I ride?
In short, wherever you want! There many are safe and fun places to ride. Chicago has been ranked one of the 10 most bike-friendly cities in the country and a map of bike lanes is located here.
The Forest Preserves in Cook County, Lake County and DuPage County have great resources for trails. Check them out here:
Also, here are some tips to bike safely by yourself for with your family.
Earn a Pedalpalooza Cycling Jersey
Every rider who fundraises $500 or more will receive an exclusive Pedalpalooza cycling jersey. All fundraising efforts support our Access for Every Child fund, removing barriers to care for the kids who need it most.
Earn a Pedalpalooza T-Shirt
If you raise an additional $250 you will qualify for this Pedalpalooza t-shirt! Families can choose to qualify for jerseys by raising $500 per family member, t-shirts for $250 per family member, or a combination of the two.
Peloton Group Classes
The Lurie Children’s Pedalpalooza team has had selected four Peloton classes for our community to ride
Feel free to drop in to any of these classes throughout the month.
