Join ICSJ Dolphins in Fighting Pediatric Brain Tumors
On July 27, 2017, I will participate in the Young Associates Board’s (YAB) 15th annual Run for Gus 5K Run/1 Mile Walk with the ICSJ Dolphins Team. The Run for Gus will raise funds to advance research and support services at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago for patients with brain tumors.
I first became involved in this organization fifteen years ago, and was one of the people who helped establish the Run for Gus. I moved on from the group once I no longer considered myself "young," and once I became a wife and a mom with two children of my own. The Run for Gus has continued to hold a special place in my heart and in my schedule, though, and I've participated in the 5K almost every year since 2003.
I'm participating this year with special purpose. Two kids at my kids' school were diagnosed with brain tumors this year and have been treated at Lurie Children's. Crisanto was diagnosed with a brain tumor in January 2016, and is in class with Ellie this year. He has made tremendous strides due to intensive therapies at Lurie. Angela is a sweet kindergartner who was diagnosed last November, and treasuring the days she gets to go to school, as she undergoes treatment for her tumor.
Children like Crisanto and Angela, and so many others like them, require and deserve the best, most well-researched treatment options available. Please support the work at Lurie Children's by joining the ICSJ Dolphins team, or by making a donation. Any amount makes a difference, and all amounts are tax-deductible.
With your help, children like Crisanto and Angela will receive the best healthcare possible and the opportunity to reach their greatest potential. Thank you!
