I cannot explain in words how grateful I am to every single person we have encountered at Lurie's hospital, the former Children's Memorial Hospital. Five years ago we walked in the doors of the hospital with our braver than we could ever be 4 year old son, not knowing what to expect, still in shock from the diagnosis of a cleft mitral valve and hole in the heart that would require a lenghty surgery in which Michael would need to be on bypass. Five years later our lives look much different but Michael still remains the bravest boy I know. In the past 5 years, Michael has been able to participate in hockey and baseball, loves to run 5K's with friends and family, jump from the dock into Lake Michigan and off the pool diving board! He can do anything the average 9 year old can do but braver and better!
Michael's scar used to bother him, but now its a reminder as to how blessed he is! He knows he is lucky and that there are much less fortunate kids. That is why every year until our legs no longer allow us to we will make this climb. That is why every year Michael and his sisters remind me at Thanksgiving that we must bring pies to the nurses in the cardiology department and toys to the patients! It is so important that we keep giving even though we can never fully repay them and that is why I am BEGGING you to give as well. If you can give your time and climb with us, that would be AMAZING..but if not your time, your money works just as well. Any single dollar amount will put a smile on the face of a child and family in need. You may think "what can $5 do?"...let me tell you, it can buy a puzzle, a craft or bubbles that if only for a few minutes, allows a sick kid to feel like a normal kid....So I am counting on your support, just like I always have, to help our team make our goal!
I cannot thank you enough!
