Alex Pancoe's Team Lurie Children's Fundraising Page!
Welcome to my fundraising page for Team Lurie Children's! Many of you know my backstory but for those who do not -- Lurie Children's has been a huge part of my life. In the summer of 2005 -- following my freshman year at Northwestern -- and exactly at the age where everyone thinks they are invincible -- I suffered from constant migranes that progressed to the point where I was unable to function. After months of trying to tough it out, I was diagnosed at Evanston hospital with a brain tumor and was subsequently operated on by Dr. Tandori Tomita at Children's Memorial Hospital. The operation was a great success and I've had no complications to date over a decade later.
While my operation was a success, I've maintained my involvement with Lurie Children's and currently serve on the foundation board. Lurie Children's is a huge passion of mine and truly a unique one-of-a-kind hospital that is a huge source of pride for Chicago. Lurie Children's is located on the downtown Chicago campus of its academic partner, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. It is ranked as one of the nation's top children's hospitals by U.S.News & World Report.
To raise funds for Lurie Chidren's -- I will be attempting to climb the 7 summits. The Seven summits are as follows.
- Everest, Nepal – 29,035’/8850m
- Aconcagua, Argentina – 22,902’/6980m
- Denali, Alaska – 20,320’/6194m
- Kilimanjaro, Africa – 19,340’/5896m
- Elbrus, Russia – 18,513’/5642m
- Vinson, Antarctica – 16,067’/4897m
- Carstensz Pyramid, New Guinea – 16,023’/4884m
- Mt. Blanc, France/Italy - 15,771'/4807m
This is a difficult task that may take many years to complete -- less then 500 people have completed the 7 summits.
