Move for Kids 2019

Miles for Miles

As some of you may know, our son, Miles, was diagnosed with a Ganglionueroblastoma (a rare cancerous tumor about the size of an oblong cantaloupe) when he was only 4 yrs. old. He has had a number of procedures and surgeries since to make sure it doesn't return. It is and has been a hard road, but thankfully he has been blessed with clear scans for over 3 years, but we owe so much to the care and compassion of the doctors, nurses and staff at Lurie's Childrens Hospital! You never think you're family will ever have to endure this, but it's nice to know that this hospital will do everything they can to make it easier for the kids and their families. These things don't come for free, though. They rely heavily on donations to make it more 'fun' for the kids and their families.

This experience has turned Miles into a true philanthropist. He has raised THOUSANDS of dollars every year through his Miles for Miles team. He also collects toys and monetary donations every December and delivers them to the hospital.

The money raised can go towards a number of things such as, getting a comfort item for a newborn, impatient entertainment and activities, lab supplies for the clinical trials, school supplies for the Luries Classrooms so that kids in the hospital can continue their education, etc. and this is just a little of where the money can go.

We honestly owe everything to Luries! From the moment we walked through the door to today, they have always made us feel like it was going to be okay. The things they do for the kids is amazing, from coloring books and toys in their room from the second they are admitted to the playroom and activities they have for kids to make them more comfortable when they are in the most uncomfortable situation is AMAZING! Miles actually asks when he can go back!

Our family decided to do the 'Move for Kids 5K' race to show our appreciation and do everything we could for other families that have to visit Luries, whether it's a short visit or a long. I couldn't imagine being anywhere else! They honestly have the best staff and doctors any parent could wish for!

This will be the 5th year we will be leading a team, Miles for Miles, to raise money for the hospital. Miles looks forward to this race every year and hopes more can join us!

Help make a difference in the lives of nearly 213,000 patients treated at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago each year. Support my efforts for the 2019 Move for Kids, by making a gift today. Every dollar raised means a brighter and healthier future for our children.

Here are just a few ways your donations could help:

$35 can provide a comfort item for a premature infant to ensure the smallest and most fragile babies heal and grow faster.

$60 can help provide inpatient entertainment and distractions to help patients reduce stress and have fun while undergoing treatment.

$120 can help provide small lab supplies for one of the hospital's clinical trials to ensure our children have access to the latest treatments and therapies.

$240 can help provide supplies for the Lurie Children's classroom so that children in the hospital can continue their education.

All donations are tax-deductible and will be acknowledged by Lurie Children's Foundation.

On behalf of the patients and families of Lurie Children's, thank you for your support!
