Let's Knock Out Childhood Cancer
My name is Megan Bugg, and I have
been fighting Stage 4 Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma since December 26,
2014. Raising awareness for childhood cancer and the need for more
funding to support research on childhood cancer has become my passion.
Currently, less than 4% of Federal dollars for cancer research are
dedicated to researching cures for childhood cancer. We kids deserve
better, so every dollar counts.
I’m raising funds through Lurie
Children’s Circle of Friends program to support important research on
childhood cancer being conducted by Dr. Walterhouse and his team. Dr.
Walterhouse's laboratory studies a group of genes, called the Hedgehog
signaling pathway genes, that function normally during development.
However, these genes sometimes become activated in an abnormal way and
then play a role in human cancers, including rhabdomyosarcoma and Ewing
sarcoma. Dr. Walterhouse's laboratory believes these genes contribute to
the development of drug resistance in rhabdomyosarcoma and Ewing
sarcoma. Studies are currently underway to investigate this, which could
be a significant step towards finding a cure for this terrible disease
that affects so many children.
Please help me end childhood cancer by donating to Dr. Walterhouse's important research project. 100% of all donations will go to Dr. Walterhouse's research. Also, all donations are tax-deductible and will be acknowledged by Lurie Children’s Foundation. Together we can help end childhood cancer. Thank you for your support!
