Let's Knock Out Childhood Cancer

My name is Megan Bugg, and I have been fighting Stage 4 Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma since December 26, 2014.  Raising awareness for childhood cancer and the need for more funding to support research on childhood cancer has become my passion.  Currently, less than 4% of Federal dollars for cancer research are dedicated to researching cures for childhood cancer.  Since 2017, I have raised $190,359.28 for pediatric cancer research at Lurie Children's and am continuing my efforts. We kids deserve better, so every dollar counts.

I’m raising funds through Lurie Children’s Circle of Friends program to support important research on childhood cancer being conducted by acclaimed cancer biologist, Xiao-Nan Li, MD, PhD. With 130 models of different brain tumor subtypes, Dr. Li is recognized as having developed the largest number of tumor models in the world, and his work has resulted in significant external funding. He will expand his successful approach to create models for all types of cancers, including rhadomyosarcoma to better understand tumor invasion and metastasis.  He is working to obtain rhadomyosarcoma tissue samples and expects to be able to create the new models in two to three months once he secures these samples. As a core member of the Li laboratory, research associate Joon Won Yoon, PhD will help expedite the development of new tumor models of rhabdomyosarcoma. Dr. Li and his team will partner with pharmaceutical companies to secure anticancer drugs to match with promising drug targets and also focus on the development of new therapeutic compounds. He also hopes to develop a high-throughput drug screening facility that would have the potential to screen multiple drug combinations. A future goal is to translate the most effective therapies into new clinical trials for patients.

Please help me end childhood cancer by donating to Dr. Li's important research project.  100% of all donations will go to Dr. Li's research.  Also, all donations are tax-deductible and will be acknowledged by Lurie Children’s Foundation. Together we can help end childhood cancer.  Thank you for your support!
